May 01, 2008 - School Bus Driver Brakes Too Hard Injuring 19 Children

May 1, 2008 - A school bus driver in the town of Huntley, Illinois who became angry with the children and slammed on the brakes faces misdemeanor charges. Julieta Clinton, 37, was charged with 19 counts of child endangerment and 19 counts of reckless conduct after 19 of the children on the school bus she was driving were injured when she slammed on the bus's brakes, causing the children, who ranged in age from 5 to 10, to be thrown from their seats.

One child was sent to a hospital and paramedics treated the others at the scene for complaints of bumped heads and neck pain.

Clinton was released on $100 bond and assigned a May 22nd court date.

She was traveling at less than 10 mph when she slammed on the brakes twice, according to the school district superintendent, who added that Clinton, who had been with the district for a few months and had a clean record, will no longer drive a bus for the district.

Huntley is about 50 miles northwest of Chicago.
